I am contacted by my newly aquainted Fixer, a man named Felix. He tells me that there’s a new Mr. Johnson in the area who is throwing around a lot of Nuyen to feel out the local talent. A smuggler/rigger sort, Corbin was also contacted by Felix, and we’re given details of a meet up at Ebey’s Bar-in-Exile in Everett.

When we get there, we are joined by a mage-type named Billy, and our contact, this Mr.Johnson is an Amerindian Elf.

An Ork Street Samurai judging by sword and muscle barges in and joins us, apparently on the recommendation of the bartender, and Mr. Johnson makes a comment about how we could use some muscle.

The job is a simple one, stop a particular BSNF freight train between Edmonds and Mukilteo in order that a second team from the waterline is able to empty a certain train car and unload it. We are to provide Overwatch until the second team finishes and leaves then we can escape. The train leaves Seattle to Calgary at midnight on Saturday (16 Sept).

He initially offers 1,200¥ each, but I talk him up to 1,320¥ and we get half now and half when the run is complete (660¥). We ask a few more pertinent questions and agree to the deal. Afterwards, he pays our tab for the rest of the evening and we begin to carouse in order to get a feel for one another.

Billy the wiz is a menace to technology and ends up slagging his phone, which drops in his beer and renders it a wasted chunk of plastic and fused metal. I browse the Matrix and find out that the train is a regular one every night between 10pm and 2am, and we briefly discuss doing a dry run this evening. After preliminary planning, we head out to the tracks in Everett to scope out the train. Buddy, the Elf Bartender, seemed glad that we were leaving, I think maybe because Vern was leaving early tonight.

We find a relatively abandoned industrial park adjacent to the tracks and begin to plot out how to stop the train. My data search reveals that the train has a crew of two: a mechanic and a rigger, and that there should be a couple ways to stop the train once boarding it physically or virtually.

Billy’s magic confirms there isn’t anyone nearby, while Vern and I attempt to sneak around, unfortunately I stumble into the water and I suspect I caught a cold.

As the train slowly approaches, Corbin uses his commlink’s greater signal range to subscribe to the train’s Matrix node, and through this I sneak into the system, hacking my way into a User account. Unfortunately the spider on the node detects me and proceeds to attack. I disengage and leave without appreciable intel but not too harmed by it.

Meanwhile Billy uses magic to levitate Vern ontop of the train, giving the street samurai the chance to see how well that works before escaping by similar levitating trick.

A little bruised but no worse for wear, we decide to head out and try again tomorrow evening. Though I will need to spend a few days at home, drinking Soyopollo Soup to get over this cold.
